Creamed Onions with Nutmeg

24 small white onions
3 tablespoons of butter
3 tablespoons of flour
1 1/2 cups of milk
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
Paprika

Peel the onions and steam for about 20 minutes or until tender. Heat butter in saucepan, add flour, stir in milk. Stir constantly until mixture is smooth and thick. Add salt, pepper, nutmeg, and garlic powder. Blend well. Drain onions and pour cream sauce over them. Sprinkle with paprika. Keep in warm oven until ready to serve. Serves 6.
