Low Calorie Chuck Roast

3 pounds of beef chuck roast
2 tablespoons of shortening
1 cup of apple juice
water
1/2 teaspoon of seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon of savory
3 whole cloves
1 tablespoon of flour


Wipe the meat with a damp cloth. Melt the shortening in a Dutch Oven; add chuck roast and brown well on all sides. Pour off excess fat. Add the apple juice, 1/2 cup of water, seasoned salt, pepper, savory and cloves; cover and cook gently for 2 1/2 hours or until the meat is tender. Mix the flour with enough water to form a thin paste; add to pan liquid, stirring constantly until thickened. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serves 6
