| Applesauce Doughnuts #2
3 1/2 cups of Gold Medal All Purpose flour 1 cup of applesauce 3/4 cup of sugar 2 tablespoons of shortening 3 teaspoons of baking powder 3/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves 2 eggs Vegetable oil Browned Butter Glaze |

Beat 1 1/3 cups of the flour and the remaining ingredients except oil and Browned Butter Glaze in large bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, until blended. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in remaining flour. Cover and refrigerator about 1 hour or until dough stiffens. Heat oil (2 to 3 inches) in deep fryer or 3 quart saucepan to 375ºF. Turn half of the dough onto well floured cloth covered surface; gently roll in flour to coat. Gently roll dough 3/8 inch thick. Cut with floured doughnut cutter. Repeat with remaining dough. Slide doughnuts into hot oil, using wide spatula. Turn doughnuts as they rise to surface. Fry 1 to 1 /12 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Carefully remove from oil ( do not prick surfaces); drain on paper towels. Spread with Browned Butter Glaze. about 18 doughnuts
Browned Butter Glaze
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) of margarine or butter 2 1/2 cups of powdered sugar 1 teaspoon of vanilla 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk
Heat margarine over low heat until light brown; remove from heat. Mix in powdered sugar. Beat in vanilla and milk until smooth and spreading consistency.
