| Baked Homemade Doughnuts
1/3 cup of sugar 2 teaspoons of nutmeg 2 teaspoons of salt 1/2 cup of shortening 2 eggs 2 cakes yeast 1/4 cup of lukewarm water 3 3/4 cups of flour |

In a saucepan add sugar, nutmeg, salt and shortening to milk. Stir until shortening is melted over low heat. Cool to lukewarm, add well beaten eggs and yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup of lukewarm water. Add flour and beat briskly. Let rise until double in bulk, or about an hour. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with floured cutter, place on greased pan and brush with melted butter. A cookie sheet is good for this. Let rise about 1/2 hour or until about double. Bake at 450ºF. for about 10 minutes. Brush with butter when done, then dust with confectioners' sugar.
