Poppy Seed Loaf Cake

Cake:
1/2 cup of butter or margarine
1 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of poppy seeds
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of half and half
Glaze:
1 cup of sifted powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Juice of 1 lemon or lime



Cake: Cream butter until light. Add sugar gradually, beating until light and fluffy. Add poppy seeds, vanilla and eggs. Beat until well mixed. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add dry ingredients alternately with cream to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Pour into a greased and floured 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350ºF. for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, remove and pour glaze over warm cake.
Glaze: Combine the sugar, vanilla, and lemon juice and mix well. Pour over cake.
