2 sticks of butter
1 1/4 cups of powdered sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 egg
2 1/2 cups of flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Sift the flour with salt and set aside. Cream butter and sugar, add egg and vanilla and beat until smooth and fluffy. Stir in flour mixture, with a spoon until well mixed. Place dough in cookie press of your choice. Press onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 375ºF. for 8 - 10 minutes, until they just begin to lightly brown at edges a little.
These are excellent for the holiday season. There are so many different shapes and so many easy ways to decorate the cookies. Children will love helping make them.
Christmas Trees: Add a little green food coloring to the dough and place a red cinnamon candy on the top or use plain dough and decorate with colored sugar.
Wreath: Use green dough or plain. Add 2 or 3 red cinnamon candies around circle to look like holly.
Candy Canes: Use a round tube press and curve in shape of cane. Ice red strips.
