Shrimp Marengo

7 slices of bacon, chopped
3 1/2 pounds of shrimp, cooked and cleaned
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 cup of chopped onions
1 pound of mushrooms
one 2 pound 3 ounce can of Italian tomatoes
one 6 ounce can of tomato paste
1 can of consommé
1 tablespoon of salt
1/8 teaspoon of pepper
1 tablespoon of prepared mustard
1 tablespoon of sugar
3 drops of liquid hot pepper seasonings
1 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate
1 1/4 teaspoon of oregano
1 1/4 teaspoon of basil
1/4 cup of flour

Cook the bacon until crisp, remove bacon, reserving fat. Sauté shrimp in bacon fat with garlic. Add onions and mushrooms, cook until tender. Pour in tomatoes, tomato paste and consommé, stir in seasonings. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring often. Mix flour with enough cold water to make a smooth paste. Add to shrimp and mushroom mixture, boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add bacon. NOTE: Should be prepared in advance and stores in refrigerator to improve flavor. Yield 8 servings
